June-Aug '13 empties

1. Diorskin Nude foundation trial size 5 ml

My overall impression - I've used this foundation before and I like it. It gives my skin very natural finish yet it covers imperfections well. The staing power is decent but not transfer-proof. It also doesn't break me out which is always a big bonus. I took it with me on my 5-week holiday and one small 5 ml lasted me this whole time.

Would I buy it again - Yes, it is a good general foundation. I usually wait intill it is on sale on strawberrynet as my last full size bottle only cost me $34

2. Covergirl Lash Blast Volume

My overall impression- One of those mascaras with rubber brushes. The consistency was good but apart from that it was very average.

Would I buy it again? - No, even though it only cost me $10. There are better mascaras out there in the same price range.

3. Crabtree and Evelyn India Hicks hand cream

My overall impression - Smells really nice and absorbs without residue. I just find that C&E hand cream are not moisturising enough for winter months.

Would I buy it again? - No, there are other hand creams that suit me better. I will still use it however if it comes as a freebie or GWP. I also dislike carrying metal tubes in my bag as they can leak.

4. L'Occitane Essential Oils shower gel, trial size 15 ml

My overall impression- It smells gorgeous (and natural), very thick and concentrated so it lasts a while and it doesn't irritate my skin.

Would I buy it again?-  If I find it on sale as L'Occitane body products are a bit overpriced.

5. De Lorenzo Granite Hair Spray, travel size

My overall impression - Firm hold hair spray with pleasant smell. It last well and hold my hair without gluing it together into strands or discolouring it (no crusty curls!). I took it with me travelling and used it nearly every day on my fringe.

Would I buy it again? - Yes, this is one of the best hairs prays I've tried.

6. L'Oreal Elnett Satin Hair Spray, Full Size

My overall impression - A lot of people seem to like this product but it wasn't for me. It doesn't hold my hair well and it seem to disappear after few hours. Plus the scent is very nauseating.

Would I buy it again? - No, I didn't like it at all.

7. L'Occitane Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner, 75 ml each (trial size)

My overall impression - The size was perfect for travelling, it lasted me 4 weeks. The shampoo itself was very nice and thick and foamed up well even in hard water. The conditioner was on the light side (I guess it is means to be like that to prevent adding weight to hair). Both had pleasant herbal scent.

Would I buy it again? - No, I still prefer repairing shampoo and conditioner from L'Occitane even though I have fine hair. They make my hair super soft and shiny.

8. Dove Triple Moisturising Body Wash, Full Size

My overall impression - Creamy body wash with generic and somewhat chemical scent

Would I buy it again? - No, there are better products out there even in the same price range. I got it because I really like the original Dove soap thinking it will be very similar but I found moisturising properties were very average plus I wasn't a huge fan of the scent.

9. Chanel Les 4 Ombres in Dunes, full size

My overall impression -I had this palette for ages. At first it seemed to be very ordinary - one dark brown, one beige taupe, one camel beige and one white with golden pearl. However these eye shadows blended beautifully and subtle pearl pigment made them more interesting than plain matte beige and brown eye shadows. I've hit major pan on all of them and had to throw them out because they became quite dry and hard to use.

Would I buy it again? - I would love to find a similar palette but unfortunately this one was a limited edition. I got Urban Decay Naked Basics but it doesn't compare :(

10. Clarins Alcohol-free Toning Lotion with Camomile, Trail Size 100 ml
My overall impression - At first I thought it was too mild, I didn't see a lot of dirt or make-up on my pad like I do with alcohol-based toners. However it helped to clear up my skin without irritating it or breaking it out.  Plus I love the scent!

Would I buy it again? -Yes, I think it is a perfect toner esp. during cooler weather.

David Jones Deluxe Sampler Tote

Yes, it that time of the year! David Jones released their bi-annual beauty book with lots of great specials plus they have new Deluxe Sampler Tote which is excellent this time round.

You just have to get something from their beauty range and its yours for $19.95.

I purchased MOR Lychee Flower Body Wash and also got GWP - three gorgeous soaps (Quince Persimmon, Peppery Cardamom and Cyclamen Tuberose) in very cute box.

Back to sampler tote...here is what I got in mine

1.
1. SK II - Facial Treatment Essence 30 ml
Heard a lot about this product, always wanted to try it. It suppose to prep your skin before moisturising.

2. Dermatologica Precleanse 30 ml
I never had good luck with Dermatologica products but hopefully this cleanser will do what it suppose to without breaking me out.

3. David Jones Day Cream 30 ml
I will probably use it as hand cream as it has some oil therefore can break me out

4. David Jones Deeply Purify cleanser 30 ml
Supposed to remove make-up well, will give it a shot

5. Roger and Gallet Bois D'Orange soap 25 g
This product smells gorgeous (reminds me a lot of L'Occitane Eau Universelle). I am a big fan of citrus scents so I am very excited to try it.

6. Billy Goat Soap Lip Balm FS 15 ml in Peach
It is packed with natural oils, smells like peach sorbet and feels very nice on my lips. I think I'll use it up fairly quickly.

7. Molton Brown Enlivening Toko-Yuzu shower gel 30 ml
It has very luxurious packaging and smells really nice but I still can't comprehend why Molton Brown Shower Gels are so expensive?...Nice sample though, will take it with me on my next trip.

8. OPI mini nail polish 5 ml in Kiss me on my Tulips from Holland Collection
Very nice bright pink shade. I think it is perfect for upcoming spring/summer. BWT to identify the shade of OPI mini you just have to google the number on the bottom of the polish.

9. Burt's Bees Day Lotion 7g
Came in very cute mini glass jar. It smells beautiful and feels light on my skin. Hopefully I'll like it enough to get a full sized jar as I am still to find good moisturiser under $60.

10. Bioelexia Body Shaper 20 ml x 2
I think I got two of these by accident (is the universe trying to tell me something :s )
It has the usual aloe vera, shea butter, green tea, Vit E, caffeine maca herbal extract. I don't believe that lotions alone will shape your body but they might be somewhat useful in combination with diet and exercise (they can improve circulation and lymphatics). I also like to use them after travelling esp. flying on my swollen feet.

11. Circa Home Vanilla Bean and Allspice 1965 Soy Candle 60 g
I was very excited when I saw a small candle included in sampler tote. My friend loves their candles and I am glad that I will finally try one myself. It has very nice gourmand scent, I think it will appeal to a lot of people and it won't make your place smell like artificial lemons, or even worse berries!

Fair few GWP from this season's Beauty Book appealed to me...sadly I have to use up a lot of products first before buying more. ...mmm...I like :

My overseas beauty purchases

My five-week vacation was awesome. I think it changed my outlook on life and made me re-evaluate few things. Few situations definitely put me out of my comfort zone particularly when I was travelling alone. I am even considering starting my own travel blog sharing my experiences and points of view :)

However I want to keep this blog as beauty, fashion and lifestyle blog. I didn't go too crazy but still purchased few nice beauty-related things in various locations.

 1. YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat Foundation
Looks very promising as it has both long-lasting properties and luminous finish. I haven't used it enough to do a full report but watch this space...

2. Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler
Couldn't resist this cult beauty tool plus it was relatively inexpensive in Singapore

3. Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Duty-Free Exclisuve miniature set
It came with four gorgeous scents - Nerolia Bianca (citrus-y floral), Herba Fresca (fresh green), Flora Rosa (fruity rose) and Pamplelune (citrus + greens)

I am keeping Herba Fresca and Pamplelune because I love fresh scents. Will be gifting the other two to my family members.
5. The Body Shop Hemp Hand Cream
This one is a must-have for me. I get very dry hands that sometimes peel and get itchy. This hand cream moisturises like no other. I keep coming back to it when I need some serious relieve.

6. The Body Shop Almond Hand Cream
Never tried this one before but I got it as a lighter alternative to Hemp hand cream. They cost me 10 Euros in Germany!

7. Vichy Aqualia Thermal Moisturiser
This French brand appealed to me because they claim to be free from parabens plus lots of their products don't contain alcohol. They use water from the famous Vichy Thermal Waters. This moistiruser has very light consistency and pleasant light scent, it doesn't break me out either.

8. Vichy Aqualia Thermal Lip Balm
Very light lip balm. It was perfect during summer however I found that it is not moisturising enough for winter.

9. Vichy Normaderm Micellar Water for Imperfection prone skin
It is very mild and even safe to use on eyes. It seems to pick up extra make-up and grime after cleansing.
